Matcha is powdered green tea from Japan. Our premium Matcha (ceremonial grade) is imported directly from Japan and is the pride of our Japanese tea farmers. It is an ultra-finely ground green tea, and becomes velvety with a luminous emerald green color. Matcha has rich umami , is packed with the amino acid L-theanine, antioxidants (catechins) and has a high caffeine content.

Why is matcha so good for you?
To create this unique form of green tea, the tea plants have been shaded and developed a lot of chlorophyll (green color), and are then ground into a powder. This powder is mixed directly into the water to give you all the nutritional benefits in a highly concentrated form. It becomes a full-bodied and bitter vegetal brew, but still slightly sweet. Here you will find a high content of L-theanine and a lot of umami flavor.

What is L-Theanine?
L-theanine is a unique amino acid that stimulates alpha waves in the brain which are associated with producing a calm and relaxed mind. So even though matcha contains a lot of caffeine, it can have a calming effect and provide what can be called "alert relaxation".
L-theanine is found exclusively in tea, but Matcha contains the highest level.

How to brew matcha?
- Heat water to 80 degrees. Or boil water and mix in a little cold water.
- Take half a teaspoon (1-2 grams) in the cup and pour over the water.
- Preferably use a whisk or small milk frother to mix. Alternatively, stir with a teaspoon or shake in a jam jar.

What will affect the result in the cup is the water temperature and the amount of matcha you use. If the water is too hot, the tea will be bitter. The cooler the water, the sweeter the tea will taste. Our suggestion is the most common preparation method called usucha. You can also make a stronger variation, called koicha, with double the amount of matcha and half the water.
