Matcha, or matcha powder , is as versatile as espresso as an ingredient in a wide range of drinks, both hot and cold.

This matcha is not for making traditional matcha, as it is too bitter, but it is perfect for culinary use. The quality is adapted for use in drinks such as Matcha latte, Matcha chocolate and Dirty Matcha (with espresso). It can also be used to make delicious ice cream, chocolate and smoothies. It adds a sweet, delicate matcha flavour - as well as a beautiful vibrant green colour - to your delicacies.

Matcha has rich umami, the amino acid L-theanine, is packed with antioxidants (catechins) and a high caffeine content.

This matcha powder is sugar-free and the drinks you make can be sweetened as desired.

If you are looking for matcha that you can drink neat, you will find it in the overview of all our matcha.

Why is matcha powder so good?

Matcha is a unique green tea that stands out both in its production method and nutritional content. The tea plants are grown in the shade for a period of time to develop extra chlorophyll, before the tea leaves are harvested and ground into a fine powder. We mix this powder directly into water, unlike regular green tea, where the leaves are steeped in water. Therefore, we consume the whole tea leaf. This gives a concentrated drink with a full flavor, a natural sweetness and a balanced bitterness with umami.

Natural benefits of matcha

  • High caffeine content – about 60 mg per cup (for comparison, coffee has around 80 mg)
  • Caffeine can support concentration and mental performance
  • L-Theanine can contribute to calmness, focus and relaxation
  • May increase metabolism and support fat burning
  • Extra high content of antioxidants compared to other types of tea

The combination of caffeine and L-Theanine provides long-lasting energy without the sudden peaks and crashes you often get from coffee. When coffee feels too intense, matcha can be a more balanced alternative!

What is L-Theanine?

L-Theanine is a unique amino acid that can stimulate alpha waves in the brain, which is associated with a sense of calm and relaxation. This substance is found naturally in tea, but matcha has the highest content of any tea.

The combination of L-Theanine and caffeine in matcha can contribute to a balanced energy level, where you feel alert and focused without restlessness. This is one of the reasons why matcha is often chosen as a calmer alternative to coffee.

How to make matcha latte?

Making matcha latte is very simple. First, make a regular matcha:
  1. Heat water to 80 degrees. Or boil water and mix in a little cold water.
  2. Take half a teaspoon (1-2 grams) in the cup and pour over the water.
  3. Preferably use a whisk or small milk frother to mix. Alternatively, stir with a teaspoon.

  1. Then heat the milk in a steamer or in your own way in a pot, microwave or similar.
  2. Pour the hot milk over the matcha.
  3. If you don't have a steamer that has given you rich milk, you can use the milk frother at the end to mix and aerate the latte.

We recommend:

Match whisk, electric

Remember:
The taste depends largely on both the water temperature and the amount of matcha you use. If the water is too hot, or you use too much matcha powder, the taste can be bitter and strong. However, if you use slightly cooler water and carefully test the amount of matcha powder you like, you will get a rounder and sweeter taste.

Organic green tea

An organic product is produced in a way that takes the environment into account by not using chemical and synthetic pesticides. It's good for the planet, but also for the tea, the farmer and you. By buying organic teas, you support healthy and long-term tea production.

We are proud to be the largest Norwegian brand importer of organic tea. To be approved by Debio and use the definition Organic, not only must the ingredients be certified organic, but our own plant must also be certified by Debio and controlled by Mattsilynet.

In addition to import controls from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, we go beyond the requirements by also taking random samples for pesticides/pesticides and other pollutants.

It is important that tea is stored protected from air and light. That's why we sell all our teas packed in tight aluminum bags with a zip lock.
